The Tomb Raider film franchise, based on the popular video game series of the same name, has seen the iconic adventurer Lara Croft portrayed by two different actresses over the years. The collection of Tomb Raider movies includes both the Angelina Jolie era and the Alicia Vikander era. Angelina Jolie first donned the role of Lara Croft in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” (2001) and its sequel “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” (2003). Jolie’s portrayal brought the fearless archaeologist to life, and her action-packed adventures in search of ancient artifacts captivated audiences. These films, though not critically acclaimed, became cult classics among fans of the video game franchise.
In 2018, the franchise was rebooted with Alicia Vikander as the new Lara Croft in “Tomb Raider.” The film focused on the character’s origins and her transformation into the formidable adventurer fans know and love. Vikander’s portrayal was praised for its more grounded and realistic take on the character. While the reboot was generally well-received, plans for further sequels are uncertain as of my last knowledge update in September 2021. Regardless of which era you prefer, the Tomb Raider collection offers a thrilling blend of action, archaeology, and adventure, making it a must-watch for fans of the video games and action-adventure films.
